International Privacy Day 2011: Insights on 21st Century Privacy from Carnegie Mellon Panel Featuring CyLab Experts

With the world going digital from laptops to smartphones, there are increasing concerns about data privacy. What happens to the sensitive information we provide online? And what can we do to protect it? Practical answers to these real-world questions are vital for government, business, the individual and society as a whole. That's why Carnegie Mellon CyLab's main research thrusts include Privacy Protection and Usable Privacy and Security.

To celebrate the 2011 International Data Privacy Day, CyLab and Heinz College held a poster session and panel discussion with CMU privacy researchers on Wednesday, January 26 in Hamburg Hall.

Moderated by Alessandro Acquisti, Heinz College associate professor of information technology and public policy, and a CyLab researcher, the panel included Travis Breaux, assistant professor at the Institute for Software Research; Lorrie Cranor, associate professor at the Institute for Software Research and the Engineering & Public Policy department, and Director of CyLab Usable Privacy and Security Lab; as well as three more CyLab researchers, Steve Fienberg, the Maurice Falk university professor of statistics and social science, Jason Hong, associate professor at the Human Computer Interaction Institute, and Norman Sadeh, full professor at the School of Computer Science.

Here is the CyLab You Tube Channel video record of the panel, in five segments.
